The Study Guide serves as a companion guide for the Seven Deadly Sins, Seven Lively Virtues film series. Each section provides a detailed commentary on the DVD and “Questions for Understanding\" based on the film presentation, Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The sections also include “Questions for Reflection\" that aid in connecting the material to your own life and experience.

For group study, you can present the program in seven or eight sessions of 60-90 minutes. Each session should include DVD viewing and group discussion of the Study Guide questions. Participants should read the commentary in the study guide and prepare the questions before the small group discussion. This preparation can be accomplished either before or after they view the DVD.

Join Bishop Robert Barron for this presentation of the seven deadly sins, those great spiritual blocks that inhibit our flourishing in relationship with God and one another. Based on Dante’s writings, the seven deadly sins correspond to the seven stories of Dante’s Mt. Purgatory. Pride, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony, avarice and lust are all presented as patterns of dysfunction within us that lead to unhappiness.

Bishop Barron shows us how to counteract these seven sinful patterns through a conscious process of opposition, known as the “seven lively virtues.\" These offer antidotes to each sin and help set us on the right path to healing and happiness.
