St Mary MacKillop is Australia's own saint. Born and raised in Victoria, she was the first person in the nation's history to be canonised a saint of the Catholic Church. Known too as St Mary of the Cross, she is a co-founder of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, a trailblazing educator who concerned herself especially with the poor and is formally the Second Patron of Australia.
